Dr Mercola Chewable Multivitamin Review:

A healthy family life is a happy childhood.

Lost in the fog of childhood

“It’s like a bad soap opera,” one father said. He was recounting the time when he misdirected his 3-year-old’s attention to a mirror and the little boy saw raised in the reflection something he shouldn’t have: sexual abuse by a local gym’s owner, Mr. Santos.

The boy’s reaction was instantaneous. He took off running from the house, screaming, comi ng straight to the police station. The police arrested Mr. Santos and took him away.

His bond was raised and he was confined to home for 3 months, where he undergo a sex-offender treatment program (SOTP) to help understand his behavior and to prepare him for a new life.

This father wasn’t the only one whose child had become addicted to the Internet. “It’s like a drug. My son is hooked, and it poisons everything he does,” a mother said, her eyes wide with concern. She had already talked to her son’s school psychologist and assistant principal, and she had even asked her son, too. But when she realized they were not helping, she told her son: “You have to stop this. It’s not right, and if you can’t stop, you will end up either dead or in jail.” But she took her son’s computer home and put up all her family’s email accounts so he couldn’t access it.

But when she went to the grocery store later that same day, her son had already found another way into the Internet. She shot him a warning look: “You know better than that.” Without explaining, she left the groceries and returned with an opened bag of chips and an empty plastic soda bottle half filled with water and a hammer with $10 in change.

This was my third visit to the home of the Victoria boy whose parents were more afraid of his Internet addiction than of his internet-connected devices. He didn’t seem to fully grasp the message.

After dinner, his father admitted, “He’s really ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). He has trouble taking things in.” And he scratched his head. “He’s different than the other kids, and that’s the problem. He doesn’t connect like the others do.”

My eyes narrowed. The boy did seem different—more like a little adult than a child, or at least a very mature child. He had a set of wire-rimmed glasses, and he wore his hair parted in the middle and gelled straight back. He wore a T-shirt with a logo that said, “I’m Presley (the French bulldog).” His father said he was in school for grade 10. I didn’t ask what the grade was on, but he said it was 83.

“I know he’s ADHD,” his father admitted, “but he’s really smart. He’s just more —— sensitive than your average ADHD kid.”

When I asked the parents if they thought they were doing good by taking him to seek help, the mother said, “What help do you think they can offer? It’s a problem that will always be there.”
