The philosophy of Zen helps you achieve a calmer state of mind, unfortunately, that philosophy was made hundreds of years ago and it isn’t 100% applicable in the modern world. Well, Zen as F*ck changes everything by applying these ancient concepts and making them more relatable in the modern world. Asides from being relatable, the book is really funny and it gives you that much-needed levity in these stressful times. Modern problems require modern solutions which is exactly why this book is so useful.

Her father’s suicide seemed to be a morbid ending to Jacqui Olliver’s teenage years of isolation, loneliness and not feeling wanted. Like many other experts, her life started out as a troubled teenager, working through the mental contamination associated with sexual abuse, low self-esteem, social anxiety, and depression. Emotional and intimacy issues which contaminate relationships are solved in this book along with a proven strategy for enhancing all aspects of personal connection. These insightful answers can transform an adult or teen from feeling frustrated, insecure and isolated into a happy, radiant and confident person.

With 5-stars and over 2,300 positive reviews, this little masterpiece is full of wisdom. I loved this book. To summarise my thoughts – this book is what you reach for when you’re feeling low – it’s a hug in book format. I recommend you don’t read from cover to cover in one sitting – read when you need a little inspiration or pick me up. It’s such a sweet and simple book – anyone could read and glean the enlightenment it provides.

If ever there was a book to be described as “wonderfully funny, scandalous and soothing at the same time” then this would be it. This is not a book that talks about calmness, or how to become calm. It’s not a self-help sermon covered in a glorious title. Instead, it’s a book that rivets you to its pages, and shows you how not being calm can be detrimental to everything you want to achieve. Ever since my first read of this almost comedic memoir, I’ve found myself going back to its fun-filled pages whenever I feel my anxiety creeping, and it’s always worked in retrospect. Granted the book has some juicy, sometimes scandalous details within its pages, but it provides a welcome distraction if you feel anxious. Also, the fact that the book is an ultimate page-turner means that I can burn all my anxeity away while reading, without even noticing the time slip by.

A Westernized, secular form of Buddhism that emphasizes mindfulness meditation and does away with superstitious ideas like reincarnation is promoted by Wright in Why Buddhism is True. Practicing meditation more widely, he says, could make people more reflective and empathic, which would reduce political tribalism. Wright uses evolutionary biology and evolutionary psychology to support Buddhism’s diagnosis of the causes of human suffering, which is in line with his academic background. Robert Wright makes the case that the modern psychological concept of modularity in the mind is in line with the Buddhist doctrine of no-self. It is a great read to understand the origins of meditation and how you can achieve calmness in your life.

The Seat of the Soul inspires you to take charge of your own life. It will alter your perspective of the world, how you connect with others, and how you comprehend your own behaviors and intentions. I really enjoyed this entire book and could not put it down. It starts with evolution and then Gary Zukav takes you on a deep dive into the new phase humanity has entered: we are transitioning from a species that understands power as the ability to manipulate and control to a species that understands power as the alignment of the personality with the soul. Our progress demands every one of us to adopt soul principles such as harmony, cooperation, sharing, and reverence for Life. Zukav, with his scientist’s eye and philosopher’s heart, shows us how to fully participate in this evolution, imbuing our daily activities and all of our relationships with meaning and purpose.

Self-help, stress management, and coloring all come together to create an interactive and therapeutic journal. This book offers practical skills in a fun-to-follow format. Readers will enjoy creating relaxing pieces of art while learning the knowledge necessary to change their reaction to stress. While creating art, readers will be looking at situations in their life with a new approach. They will be creating tangible images to help clarify their thoughts and emotions. Based on proven, practiced art therapy techniques, as well as the author’s experience working with stressed inpatients and outpatients dealing with various medical issues, Jill’s primary focus as a counselor is to help these people to learn how to help themselves by teaching practical coping skills to help change their lifestyle. In the trend of adult coloring books, this goes above and beyond—all of the art therapy directives included in Color, Draw, Collage have been used by her patients in group or individual art therapy. The theories and suggestions discussed have been used in weekly lectures and individual discussions for years. Art therapy gets to the root of the problem much faster than verbal therapy alone. When people actually see their thoughts and feelings in front of them, on paper, it has a profound effect. The effect is lasting because there is an image present to remind them of the thought and the desire to change.

In this book, the author Elizabeth takes the readers on her journey of self-doubt and redemption and how she overcomes it to get back her lost spark. It is indeed a stirring read since the readers learn from real-life incidents that are very much achievable with a slight change in the approach and general perception. The book offers insights into the mysterious nature of inspiration and through her own experience, the author inspires us to embrace our curiosity and let go of needless suffering. It talks in-depth about attitudes, approaches, and habits we need in order to live our most creative lives.

If calmness is what you seek, this compilation of daily thoughts to nourish the soul will refresh your mind with one page of wisdom every day. Leo Tolstoy gathered and translated various phrases and quotations from multiple sources. It’s a kind of spiritual guide that can help you introspect and create a positive environment of thoughts in your mind. The best part is that you can pick up the book at any time of the day and read as many quotes as you want. Just a ten minute reading will help you calm your mind.

In the book, Strength in Stillness, Bob- the meditation teacher- talks about the techniques and methods that he himself practice and has been teaching to renowned people such as Oprah Winfrey, Howard Stern, and Ellen DeGeneres for reducing stress and anxiety while improving resilience and inner power. He breaks down the science behind Transcendental Meditation in a new, accessible way by highlighting the three distinct types of meditation—Focused Attention, Open Monitoring, and Self-Transcending—and showcases the evidence that the third, Self-Transcending, or Transcendental Meditation, is a uniquely accessible, effective, and efficient way to reduce stress, access inner power, and build resilience.

The Power of Truth is my all-time favourite when I need to keep my mind calm and clear. You can get the Kindle and hard book version of this. I love the way the author has explained ways to keep our mind at a place even in adverse situations. A lot of common sense and wisdom is stated in the book, implementation of which can make a huge difference. I have read it a couple of times and each time, I get to know and learn something new and different. If you want to have a focused and calm mind then this is a right bet to make.

According to Patricia Love the bestselling author of Seen and (Un) Heard: A Little Girl’s Journey From Silence To Empowerment, a Women’s Empowerment and Confidence Coach to realtors and business women, she states, Most of my life I self-sabotaged, as I felt I was not good enough, and would constantly compare myself to others, I was cruel to myself. Then one day, my life became so bad, I knew something had to change. I had to learn to be kinder to myself, in order to live life, and not let life live me. I do this 1 thing every morning for 2 minutes. I turn everything off, so I am one with myself…I take several deep breaths and repeat a few times to myself: “Today, I will give myself and others grace, because we are human and mistakes are made…I will have no expectations, and will do, and be the best I can, towards myself and others, in all that I do” I do this every single day, and it has changed my life. The breathing calms me, and the repetitive daily affirmation keeps positive thoughts in daily check. It is imperative that you do this with no distractions…as it will properly set your intention for the day. It is essential to discover that one thing that will move you and will make you take action towards being kinder to yourself. There is no 1 size that fits all. So find what works for you, something that makes you feel good, so you will build a habit and do it every day.
