Blooming by Carrington Smith

This product was recommended by Olivia McCoy from Smith Publicity

Carrington Smith spent a lifetime trying to be someone else—to fit in, to be loved, to keep the peace, and to make others happy. Until finally, Carrington discovered that her own path to happiness wasn’t based on fitting in but on standing out—celebrating her uniqueness and owning her past. Candid and raw, Blooming takes you on a treasure hunt to discover the gifts in the shit. Shit is quite literally fertilizer. It is in the messes, failures, trauma, and difficulties of life that we discover what we need to bloom into our greatness. From trauma to triumph, through the depths of sexual assault, religious mind-fuckery, family rejection, body dysmorphia, mid-life metamorphosis, physical scarring, and death into happiness, forgiveness, empathy, purpose, belonging, and joy, Blooming is a poignant, powerful account of finding your way through the shit.

We Should All Be Millionaires by Rachel Rodgers

This product was recommended by Rosanna Gill from Host of Breaking Labels Podcast

This is the book I wish I’d had as a young girl. Growing up mixed, I didn’t see many powerful, wealthy women that looked like me. To read the story of another mixed woman who had similar life experiences, was broker than a joke like me as a young adult, dealt with self-doubt and shame and STILL rose and became wealthy is more than powerful. It is empowering. Power is more than a title or net worth. It is an opportunity to empower countless others and when you read Rachel’s book, you WILL be empowered to do the same. Trust and believe.

The Era Of Femininity by Alisa Arvind

This product was recommended by Bea Chan from AKITA Agency

I actually met the author – Alisa – on my world travels and I never would have guessed that this strong, powerful woman that interacts with the world with such grace and humility had ever endured the level of hardship she has. From being a child bride to escaping a religious cult to becoming a journalist covering the Obama administration to diving deep into her healing journey and becoming an international speaker, coach and spiritual mentor. Alisa’s story is an inspirational reminder to us all to set ourselves free, to reclaim our feminine powers and to always make lemonade with the lemons life throws at us. A must-read!

Fighter in Velvet Gloves by Annie Boochever

This product was recommended by Rebecca Deitsch from Books ‘n’ Backpacks

If you have never heard of Elizabeth Peratrovich, then that needs to change now! Elizabeth was a member of the Tlingit nation and grew up in Alaska during the age of Jim Crow laws. She and her family faced a lot of discrimination due to their Native heritage, but Elizabeth tirelessly fought for a better future. She traveled all over Alaska to rally Native people and is often credited with achieving the passage of the Alaska Equal Rights Act of 1945, one of the first anti-discrimination laws in the US. In this short biography, author Annie Boochever teams up with Elizabeth’s son Roy Jr. to tell the inspiring story of this Tlingit woman who would not bow down to injustice. *Fighter in Velvet Gloves* is marketed for teens, but in my opinion it is an essential read for people of all ages.

Her perseverance through all the hardships she faces, shows the true definition of a powerful woman.

My Life by Golda Meir

This product was recommended by Alina Clark from CocoDoc

If ever there was a woman who exemplified power, it would be Golda Meir. She sat at the very top of the Israeli government when it was arguably the most challenging job one could ever wish for. By all means, this is one of the most intriguing personal stories I’ve come across. It reads like a fairy tale of sorts. The book is written almost with the cadence of her own voice. If anything, the strength and vision she possessed can clearly be seen from every page in the book. Other writers tend to glean from Golda’s words and derive from her words. Seeing her own words, and reading how she viewed things from her own perspective is quite refreshing. I was definitely riveted by the bok.

Jane Goodall by Dale Peterson

This product was recommended by Emily Johnson from LiveWire Leads

The book is an engaging memoir about how Jane Goodall, a young woman with little scientific training redefined our notions about primates, chimps and humankind. Ridiculed by the orthodox and mostly male arbitrators of the scientific community, she faced many hurdles. However, it was her perseverance, natural curiosity, fresh perspective and compassion for wildlife that made her carry through with her studies. Her later activism for animals is also very touching. Her gentle and sturdy nature shows us that power comes in many forms.

Hailing from the South Side of Chicago, which is recognized as one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the city, she managed to climb all the way up to becoming one of the nation’s most prominent advocates for women’s rights, and in this book, she lays down her entire life story in her own words, as she reminds us of the importance of remaining resilient and striving for constant growth and self-discovery.

The Huntress by Kate Quinn

This product was recommended by Cindy Corpis from SearchPeopleFree

The female protagonists in this tale are fantastic. You feel as if you are there with the characters as they experience triumphs, tragedies, losses, and newfound love. This novel illustrates the actual fortitude of women. Nina is, without a doubt, one of my favorite characters in any book. If you appreciate reading about Nazis being tracked down, this is a must-read!

Song of a Captive Bird by Jasmin Darznik

This product was recommended by Cindy Corpis from SearchPeopleFree

Darznik’s carefully created characters and sensuous and horrific scenes are deftly situated amid Iran’s violent, oil-fueled, mid-twentieth-century political and social upheavals and stay true to the core of Farrokhzad’s bold, dramatic, and creative life. Farrokhzad will be intriguingly introduced to you thanks to Darznik’s engaging and instructive tale.

Ecstasy by Mary Sharratt

This product was recommended by Cindy Corpis from SearchPeopleFree

This is a novel that will appeal to readers who enjoy romantic women’s fiction. It’s a fun depiction of a determined lady whose problems are just as relevant today as they were a century ago. This uplifting story about an early feminist standing up for her work was one of my favorites.

Unbowed by Wangari Maathai

This product was recommended by Shiv Gupta from Incrementors

Nobel Laureate Wangari Maathai chronicles her incredible journey from her upbringing in rural Kenya to the international stage in Unbowed. Maathai established the Green Belt Movement in 1977, a vital poor people’s environmental movement centred on women’s empowerment that quickly swept across Africa. Maathai fought diligently to rescue Kenya’s forests and restore democracy to her beloved nation, despite run-ins with the Kenyan government and personal losses, as well as being incarcerated and abused on multiple occasions. This book contains a powerful message of doing what is right, weaving together the significance of education, rural life, the repercussions of colonisation and corruption, and the capacity of individuals to make a difference locally, nationally, and globally. I suggest this book, particularly for teenage discussion groups.

This book is an honest story based on her life and all the avenues of healing that she has attempted and finding her own worth- her process of healing that she wishes to inspire other victims and survivors with her courage and will to heal and flourish.

The Confidence Code by Katty Kay and Claire Shipman

This product was recommended by Lindsey Allard from PlaybookUX

This is a wonderful book written by two successful and inspiring women who truly have a great sense of words. Katty and Claire reinforce the need to believe in yourself when you wake up each day. Not only do they use real-life examples and experiences, but they use actual research based on gender, genetics, and more. Katty and Claire believe that the main thing standing in the way of most potential female entrepreneurs is a lack of self-confidence. These authors talk about the importance of believing in yourself, provide tangible advice on how you can believe in yourself, and reading this will help you push your career & business forward (or even your personal life)!

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid

This product was recommended by Savaş Ateş from Good Carpet Guide

This revolves around her making way to Los Angeles from the 1950s to the 1980s when she said goodbye to the industry with seven husbands along the way. This was the most captivating read of 2017.

This product was recommended by Vedika Dayal from Think Outside the Odds

The media is saturated with stories of figures like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. Think Outside the Odds breaks this mold by telling the stories of 13 underdog entrepreneurs, a majority of whom are women. By delving into the outer edges of entrepreneurship, the book shares unorthodox ideas on how to turn your disadvantages into advantages for innovation.
