After losing her mom and sisters in a terrible car crash, Coyote and her dad, Rodeo, live in an old school bus. For years they travel the country to escape their painful past. But when Coyote learns the park in her old neighborhood is set for demolition — the same park where she buried a memory box with her mom and sisters — she devises a plan to get her heartbroken dad to drive back to Washington, without him knowing the real reason why. Facing memories and emotions she shut down for so long, this is the remarkable story of a grief-stricken girl who discovers love and joy after a terrible loss. This is one of my very favorite middle-grade books!

Wonder is a lovely book. It follows August, who has a facial difference. When he starts a new school, he is bullied by the other kids. The book provides insight into living with a disability and how to stand up to bullies. But it also teaches empathy. One thing I love most about this story is that it showcases that there are a million sides to every story. Even bullies are going through their own struggles, and it’s important to have empathy for anybody and everybody.

It’s the story of a boy born to be a god who is unaware of and doesn’t really care about, his “destiny”. And as well as being an involving, exciting adventure, it’ll also teach middle schoolers about Greek mythology and the civilisation that our own political system is based on.

This is a book from the “My Life” series, top-rated for children up to the beginning of middle school. The cartoons make it an enjoyable read, and I find that what makes this book wholesome is that it shows kids that their dreams for unconventional jobs exist and are possible. Especially with gaming, as this is something that most kids enjoy, and aspire to do full-time.

One of the things my kids love the most, other than remote control ride on cars and pop tarts, is reading books! As a big reader myself, this means that I get to share all of my favorite reads with them as they get older! This includes Holes by Louis Sachar, which is about a boy sent to Camp Green Lake after being falsely accused of theft, and comes to discover more than he bargained for about his past. It’s a story that deals with issues like racism, greed, and more. It is a powerful and enjoyable read that middle schoolers are sure to love.

All of Me by Chris Baron is a fantastic book for teaching middle school-aged kids about body positivity. After all, this is a phenomenon that plenty of adults struggle with so it’s very important for young children to understand early on in life. The story itself doesn’t theme solely around the idea of body positivity but it is the overriding message to be taken away from the characters and plot. Even aside from the positive messages that come from this story, All Of Me is a great book that any middle schooler would enjoy reading.
