The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down by Haemin Sunim

This product was recommended by Millie Henderson from Surge Marketing Solutions

The book I recommend is ‘The Things You Can See Only When You Slow Down: How to be Calm in a Busy World.’ By Chi-Young Lim. This book is full of insight and practical advice, and in this day and age is more relevant than ever. In a world where we feel the need to constantly be switched on and on the go, it was refreshing to read about the ways to slow down and relax.

Lost Connections by Johann Hari

This product was recommended by Izabela from Sustainable and Responsible Travel

Hari’s book has completely changed my perspective on how I view depression and happiness. As a person dealing with symptoms of depression at a very young age, I couldn’t really understand why I feel the way I feel. I also felt extremely hopeless at what I could do to make myself feel better. Hari, in his book, explains nine major causes of depression and anxiety, which were uncovered and evidenced by several different scientists from across the world. When reading Hari’s work, I slowly started realising why my anxiety levels were so high and figured out how, unintentionally, some of the major depression causes are present in my own life. Thanks to this discovery, I began a shift in the way I live my life – from being around nature more often, to improving my relationships with friends and family and reflecting on my true values. But this book is not only for those struggling with depression – it’s for everyone who seeks inspiration for improving the quality of their own life.

Make Your Bed by William H. McRaven

This product was recommended by Deepa Tailor from Tailor Law

I have always lived with the philosophy of starting any new change or task in a small way, and this book just ascertains that fact. It’s like if you make your bed when you wake up, you are ready to go on with your day. It’s the little success in the morning that defines the rest of your day. It’s quite inspiring because even if you face failures ahead, you would be better prepared with one success in your pocket. If nothing works, at least you come back to a neat bed!

There are no certain inspiring books. Some books inspire you, regardless of the genre. I like stories that stay with me, long after reading them. Brida by Paulo Coelho is that book for me. Paulo Coelho is an amazing author, who has a way with subtle storytelling. He draws you in with his flawed characters and leaves you in awe of their development. Brida has a lot of inspiring lessons. The book emphasizes how it requires courage to make mistakes. And how mistakes should be made. Often in life, we obsess over our mistakes and regret them. But there is nothing to feel sad about.
