Follow Your Heart by Andrew Matthews

This product was recommended by Gian Moore from Mellowpine

I was at a point in my life where I felt attacked, vulnerable and confused. I just couldn’t figure out why all of this stuff was happening to me (death of loved one, lawsuits, and money problems). I found myself having forms of anxiety and the need to retreat from life. We were at an airport and quite by accident, my kids asked if we could go into the store and get a postcard. I saw this book and thumbed through it. It was written as if the author was talking to you and he included many cartoons. I bought it and put it in the outside pocket of my carry-on. As I was boarding the plane the flight attendant saw the book and told me that this book had changed his life. As I started to read, the book started to answer so many of my questions as to why things were happening to me. I started to use some of his techniques and sure enough, my life turned around very, very quickly. It is 2009 now and I read this book in 2003….my life is still on track and I have nothing to complain about. He has a book for teenagers, one about making friends and another book similar to this one. I have bought this book as a gift for other people and it has changed their lives too. The greatest book ever.

This Proud Heart by Pearl S. Buck

This product was recommended by Emma Miles from PawsomeAdvice

This book is fiction and it doesn’t talk about discovering and finding your passion directly. However, the story of a young and talented girl captivated by the patriarchal society tells us we shouldn’t suffocate our wants and desires to please society, our partner, and family. It shows us that we should nurture our true, authentic self, regardless of what other people say since, at the end of the day, we are the ones living in our bodies. We are the ones who should live our lives the best we can, and be proud of every mistake and success we make because we know we followed what our intuition told us to follow. That said, the moral of the story is to avoid compromising our authentic selves and nurture every bit of passion and spark we have. Only through true authenticity, we can find our true passions.

This is a light and quick read that leaves you with some intense thoughts. It brings about a change in the way you approach life. The author is an artist, and that is reflected in the gorgeous pages that have stunning drawings. Most people move through life without recognizing their genuine passion. All they focus on is earning and try figuring out ways in which they can make money. Only a few recognize the difference between a job and a passion and, through this book, the author has tried to make the distinction clearer. I was at those crossroads once when I hated my IT job but stuck to it only because it paid the bills. The book helped me clear the fog and now I am a writer, an artist, and a yoga instructor. Atomic Habits by James Clear

This product was recommended by Daniel Morris from Fire and Saw

This is maybe an unexpected book about finding your passion, but it really helped me to discover some new things I enjoy doing. The title of the book really says it all, but it’s about identifying and breaking bad habits while at the same time recognizing and improving good ones. Reading this book helped me to see where I was wasting a ton of time and energy in my life, and how I could better direct that time and energy into more important things. For example, instead of scrolling through Facebook for up to an hour or more a day, I removed the app from my phone. Instead, I got out in the garden and discovered how much I enjoy sowing, growing, and harvesting fresh food. When you fill your life up with meaningless things, it keeps you from discovering the things that will become your passions. That’s what this book has shown me.
